The exhibits below are for KTU registered kids and parents in the Virginia Tech Kids' Tech University program on March 22nd!
Exhibit title- "Planetary Rover Exploration"
PYREX (Polytech Rover Exploration) will be presenting our rover to the children attending Kids' Tech University. The team will demonstrate how robots work by incorporating the concepts of how programming, mechanical, and electrical systems are used to communicate with the rover and manipulate it's surroundings through two games. Lego Mindstorm Robots will be used for one of the games. The other game will allow students to understand how a computer interacts with its environment by simulating the communication that occurs in the electrical and programming subsystems.
Group hosting exhibit- VT Polytech Rover Exploration Team
PYREX is a senior design team in the aerospace engineering departments at Virginia Tech. The team will be competing in a NASA/NIA funded RASC-AL competition this June to demonstrate the rover's ability to move and collect rock samples on a planetary surface similar to both the Moon and mars. From Virginia, the team must tele-communicate with the rover, which will be collecting rock samples in Houston, TX.
More information about the rover can be found on our blog at vtrobo-ops.blogspot.com/

Exhibit title- "Radioactive Golf Balls"
This activity prompts kids to think on their feet and get a
task done with limited resources and time. At the booth, there will be many
stations set up so that many kids can participate. At a station, the kids will
have to engineer a way to transport “radioactive” materials (the golf balls)
from one paper bag to another only using the materials that are provided! There
is also about a seven minute time limit so the kids have to be very creative
and think of something quickly.
Group hosting exhibit- Galipatia Outreach Committee
Galipatia is a living learning engineering community here at
Virginia Tech. The Outreach Committee is a group of these students who like to
reach out to the local schools and kids to educate them about engineering and
science. We regularly do activities in local schools and in the community, Kids' Tech University is just another great place for us to be!
